Putting the Garden to Bed – Garden Closing and Family Activities

The closing of the Medicine Learning Garden at Beaty Branch is a time for reflection, gratitude, and reverence. This special gathering provides an opportunity for community members to come together to celebrate the garden's growth and harvest, honor the wisdom and teachings of Indigenous Peoples, and prepare the garden for its transition into a new season.

The event begins at 11:30 am with a closing ceremony led by members of our local Indigenous communities. We will come together to celebrate the garden's growth and harvest, acknowledge the wisdom of Indigenous peoples, and prepare for the garden's transition to a new season. This will include teachings, stories, and insights about the garden and its cultural significance by Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers. As part of the closing ceremony, the harvest will be respectfully cut and burned as an offering of thanks to the spirits and ancestors who watch over and guide the garden.

We will also recognize and celebrate the dedication of the volunteers, staff, and gardener whose many hours of care and stewardship helped the garden thrive throughout the summer season. Invitations will be extended to all individuals who volunteered in the garden this year.
