The Red Scarf Project

The Red Scarf Project

December 1st is World AIDS Day, when red scarves, mittens, and hats line the streets to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS in our communities.

In honour of this special campaign, we are encouraging the community to knit red scarves, mittens and hats to make available to members of the community who are need of warm clothing this winter. MPL is proud to partner with the Positive Health Network serving Hamilton, Halton, Haldimand, Norfolk and Brant to make this project possible. Knitted wear can be dropped off at any library branch during regular operating hours.

The Red Scarf Project, launched in 2012, is a wa to share warmth and raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. The red scarf, when tied, resembles the red ribbon, the internatinal symbol of AIDS awareness. Through this project, we aim to bring HIV/AIDS to the forefront of people's minds and encourage meaningful conversations about HIV care, support, advocacy, prevention, and education.
