The Red Scarf Project
December 1st is World AIDS Day, when red scarves, mittens, and hats line the streets to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS in our communities.
In honour of this special campaign, we are encouraging the community to knit red scarves, mittens and hats to donate to the The AIDS Network serving Hamilton, Halton, Haldimand , Norfolk and Brant for those is need. Knitted wear can be dropped off at the Main branch any time during regular operating hours
In 2012, its first year, The Red Scarf Project was a public installation of hundreds of red scarves on the streets of downtown London and Stratford, made by staff and volunteers of the Regional HIV/AIDS agencies celebrating World AIDS Day on December 1st.
Since then, every November red scarves are knitted by talented community members and donated to Regional HIV/AIDS agencies as THE AIDS NETWORK in Halton Region. The scarves will be placed outside near community centres on the World AIDS Day to be taken and used by the most vulnerable community members who are encouraged to wear them, take them home, read the attached information tag, and spread the important message of awareness.
The Halton AIDS Network will have information booths set up at the following branches throughout the Month of November as well.
